Location and view was beautiful. You could eat inside or outside. We decided to be inside because we didn't want to wait with our two toddlers for a table outside. Inside was classic New England seaside restaurant with lots of fishing lore. We ended up with a window seat with a beautiful view of the ocean. Nothing to worry about here with two toddlers; the place was bustling with other families, birthdays and noise. Our server was friendly but we didn't see him for a little too long after we sat. Once he did stop over all the food, drinks and appetizers came amazingly fast. The food itself was really the only reason I rated three stars. The kids had grilled ham and cheese and a hot dog.......which was good but I won't base the review on their food. My wife and I had clam chowder soup to start which we both liked but were not amazed. My wife had a lobster roll served with chips.....again she ate it all but wasn't amazed. I had a seafood trio of haddock, shrimp and scallops. Seasoned and broiled well, good enough for me to clean the plate but nothing that great. Our only disappointment is just that for 100.00 on the coast of Maine I expected some better lobster or larger scallops; not the same food we can get from upstate New York.
Excellent views of the ocean from this spot. We didn't have any wait and received an Oceanside seat immediately. The service was excellent. We had the steamers, lobster and salmon as well as a salad and all we're excellent. We we're here in August which is peak season. Recommend.
My all time favorite seafood chowder place! Been going there my entire life. Nothing more relaxing than chowder, lobster and the beautiful view of the marginal way and Perkins Cove! Family tradition for three generations now! They even sold my mother the chowder concentrate to bring back home to me when I was too pregnant to travel! I just wish they were open year round. The staff is always friendly and the service excellent!
FYI, the kids' menu mac and cheese is just Kraft, not anything good (if you like your kids to eat something other than that kind of stuff, which we do). They also do not have any crayons for the kids or booster seats. So, that detracted. They do have highchairs. Our kids enjoyed the haddock sandwich and the clam chowder. Ask for extra oyster crackers, I only received one package for my bowl and the wife had one package for her cup.
Eat here because the food is decent, the service is good and the view is great. The clam chowder is very good. The crab cakes were good, but the wife thought they were kind of bland. The dipping sauce was primarily horseradish based and was good. The haddock sandwich was good, but a little plain (it is just a breaded haddock sandwich). The gulf shrimp are from Indonesia or Thailand (was expecting either Gulf of Maine or Gulf of Mexico). The shrimp breading was good, but overall the dish was still a little plain.
ate at this restaurant 9/16 and all I can say the only thing this place has going for it is the view. I had the baked haddock (over cooked) and my husband had the seafood trio, also overcooked and swimming in butter?? We had the baked stuffed potato and also ordered a salad as an extra side. Instead of charging us extra for the salads they opted to charge us for the potato, adding another $6 to our check! Ordered margaritas and they we quite bland and thought they may have forgotten to add the tequila!! Our total bill with tip was $90.00. I will not return to this restaurant (we live near by) or any of the other overpriced restaurants in Perkins Cove. We will still walk the beautiful Marginal Way and eat at another place away from the cove.
Would I eat here again? Maybe. We are in this area 1-2 times per year so, we might try another place in the area just to have tried something different. They do offer parking, I think it is primarily valet.
